I need a wheelchair. Yesterday. It’s no longer safe for me to get around my house without one, especially after I faceplanted into……a plant. Yes, a plant. More like an indoor tree. One would THINK that living outside of New Haven, CT, near the great and powerful Yale New Haven hospital, it would be relatively easy to obtain a manual wheelchair. Think again. NO place around here rents them anymore. No one HAS them in stock…at least, not affordable ones. You can walk into Walgreens and get a transport wheelchair, but that’s not going to help me, since someone else has to push it!
I went onto Amazon.com, and all of the affordable wheelchairs (under $300), would take 3-5 business days to arrive. Yeah…that’s not going to work. I can’t keep asking people to help me to the bathroom, get things for me, etc. I need to be able to get to the bathroom on my own when no one’s home without keeling over in the hallway. So I typed “wheelchair” into Google, and came up with http://www.1800wheelchair.com. They had LOTS of great, inexpensive, but quality wheelchairs ready to ship in two business days. I can’t wait until Monday, so I used their online chat to see if there was ANY way to get the chair overnight. The lovely representative, Evelyn, called one of their warehouses, and yes, for NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE, they are going to overnight me a chair. She was so gracious and wonderful.

I’m so glad you’re getting help with this ! I’ve long been assessing my apartment, and the ‘what if’ stuff that goes along with all of this getting worse. I need to move some things around so that I can get my walker up and down the halls, and have found some things to help with NOT shopping (Walmart will ship things for free if the order is >$45… a few rolls of TP and some laundry stuff, and I’m there ! And, I don’t have to lug it in from the car). My UPS guy calls me job security !!
